The History of matchmaking

Matchmaking- introducing people for the purposes of marriage and/or loving relationships.

The pursuit of love occupies more of our lifetime than most of us would care to admit. This need for companionship is a force that has driven all societies since the dawn of man. And since the dawn of man, there have been matchmakers.

Matchmakers have been around for centuries. In some cultures, the matchmaker is a profession. The history of matchmaking goes back to the Ashkenazi Jewish Shadchan, and the Hindu astrologer. They were often called upon to find the right candidates for marriage and they made the claim that the stars sanctified matches. Reading Tarot cards has also been used by some matchmakers.

The Matchmaker would look for a "good prospect" that could support his future family in the same economic lifestyle as the lifestyle of the parents.
